Antoine Choueiri, one of the founding fathers of the region’s media industry, has died in Beirut at the age of 70.
Choueiri was the founder and chairman of the Choueiri Group, the Middle East’s largest media sales brokerage, and throughout his career he was responsible for managing the ad sales for some of the largest media owners in the region, including daily newspaper An-Nahar, pan-Arab broadcaster MBC, Lebanon’s LBC and Dubai Media Inc.
Choueiri died in Beirut yesterday following a long illness. He is survived by his wife Rose, children Pierre and Lena, and their families.
A memorial and mass services will be held at St George Maronite Cathedral in Beirut tomorrow at 11.00am.
The Choueiri Group was initially formed by Choueiri in Paris after civil war erupted in Lebanon in the 1970s. The first regional firm launched by the group was in Saudi Arabia. It now operates in 11 markets covering the MENA region, Europe and Japan.
